Care routes

Care routes focus on pharmacy, medical and fragile cargo where the pace, handling and comms need extra calm and care. See who these routes work for and prepare before sending.

What care routes mean on the floor

Care routes are custom local delivery runs designed for sensitive loads: pharmacy, medical packs, items marked fragile or goods that do not fit neatly into a parcel conveyor. If your business moves medicine, samples, optics equipment or glassware in Gauteng, Durban or Cape Town, these routes keep the tempo and handover clean even when standard parcel runs are too rough or too fast. Our local operators know the pressure points, from Highveld winter aircon rooms to summer Peak at the coast. Timing, care and comms are tuned for pharmacies, clinics, small labs and any operation that cannot risk breakage or loss of chain-of-custody.

Who care routes suit (and who they don’t)

Care routes work well for independent pharmacies, specialist healthcare suppliers, dental labs, smaller medical wholesalers and ops teams moving goods to or from clinics, consulting rooms or homes. If you need temperature control, careful handling or local route changes week by week, care routes bring the calm detail most teams need. They do not suit general retail, high-volume e-commerce or anything that is fine with a basic cross-town courier throw. Bulky or dangerous goods (cylinders, heavy machinery or hazardous chemicals) need a freight assignment, not these tailored routes.

  • Best for 1 to 50 pick-up or drop points per run
  • Suited to Gauteng, Durban, Cape Town, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein core metros
  • Works for parcels, medical packs and care items up to 18kg each
  • Not for high-value gold, cash, licensed medication schedules, or schedule 6 substances
  • Not suited for industrial chemicals, pressurised gases, or bulk pallets

How a care route works in practice

Your team sends us notes: what’s moving, pick-up and drop-off points, any timing details and handling requirements. We assign a local operator who knows the route’s pressures. Most runs are single-day, same-province, with a rhythm that suits your team. Handovers can happen at clinics, pharmacies, or home care hand-off points. Each parcel is checked off by operator and recipient. If a pharmacy closes for loadshedding or a clinic runs late, we adjust or hold. The goal is to keep your floor calm, parcels unbroken and admin light.

Example: A pharmacy group in Pretoria needs daily delivery of chronic medication packs to six clinics and two home care stops. Each pack is labelled per recipient. They message route notes to Hello Logistics. The operator collects from the group’s store, scans off with each clinic sister, leaves an admin slip and takes photos of handovers. If a clinic runs late, the operator waits in the car park or calls ahead. All packs are confirmed delivered before the operator leaves the area.

What to prepare before you message

A clean route request saves time for your team and ours. Before sending, make sure you have all the basics together and check if your cargo needs any special prep (ice packs, signature forms, copy of the prescription). If the pick-up or drop-off is in an industrial park with security, note the gate process. Avoid surprises on days with load-shedding or unusual closing hours. Include order of stops if you have a preferred flow. If your team has a standard check-in call or WhatsApp group, mention if you want this used. This helps avoid confusion at handover and keeps your team on tempo.

  • Prepare a full address for each stop, including suburb and any access notes
  • List all contact names and mobile numbers for handovers
  • Flag any temperature requirements or fragile markings
  • Attach dispatch or pharmacy pack slips as needed
  • Give preferred pick-up and delivery windows
  • Mention any recurring route days or date limits

Common pitfalls and how to avoid them

Care routes work well when both sides keep things precise and calm. The most common problems come from missing handover info, changes in clinic or pharmacy opening hours (especially with municipal outages), or unclear parcel markings. Unlabelled packs create doubt and wasted trips. If your team expects two-way comms or PODs (proof of delivery), let us know in the first message. Avoid changing routes last-minute unless absolutely necessary. If you have a new mover or agency, brief them before we arrive. For issues beyond your team or our operator (roadblocks, sudden closures), use the Escalations channel so we can help resolve it on the day.

If your routes grow to more than 50 stops or involve frequent multi-province runs, you may be ready for a different lane setup or recurring move onboarding.
